The writer and Limerick City native, former winner of the International Dublin Literary Award and the Goldsmiths Prize, will read from his latest novel The Heart in Winter.
Today, 21st November 2024, I.NY announce details of Kevin Barry, Reading & in conversation at The Commercial on Friday December 13th. The limited capacity show is the award winning author’s first Limerick date since 2017, and brings together three leading artists from the city for a pre-Christmas celebration.
Kevin will read from his latest novel ‘The Heart in Winter, before sitting down to a conversation with Steve Ryan, leading Limerick musician, educator, and founder member of much-loved windings and Giveamanakick. Rounding out the Limerick line-up is Aoife Nic Canna, an acclaimed DJ and broadcaster, and a former club promoter with Kevin when they grew up together in the city in the late 80s and early 90s.
Kevin Barry is the author of the novels The Heart in Winter, Night Boat to Tangier, Beatlebone, and City of Bohane as well as three story collections. His stories regularly appear in the New Yorker magazine and his work has been translated into more than 20 languages. He also works as a playwright and a screenwriter and as co-editor and publisher of the Winter Papers arts anthology. Originally from Limerick city, he now lives in County Sligo.
Steve Ryan is an experienced songwriter, guitarist, performer, educator, researcher, and community musician. Currently working as ‘Steve ón ‘dings’, he is also a member of the Choice Album Prize-nominated windings, and a former member of the acclaimed Giveamanakick. Steve is Course Director of the Masters in Songwriting in the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick.
Aoife Nic Canna has been a central force in the Irish dance music scene since its first moves in the early 1990's. A founding member of the seminal Horny Organ Tribe, and dubbed the first lady of Irish house by Hot Press, she had regular appearances at culture-defining nights/clubs like Cork's Mór Disco, Dublin's Temple of Sound, and Manchester's Hacienda.
